If you can’t come to LEED gold certified Hostal Empúries in Spain to try out the fabulous Coco-Mat beds, do it in New York! This eco-friendly furniture company from Greece that wants clients and employees to cycle to their stores, is opening its first US store in New York’s Soho. And the good news is: Now you don’t have to stay at a luxury hotel to try out the beds; you can do it right in the store’s nap suite!

The nap suite is a private room outfitted like a hotel where customers can try the beds for hours in private for free. Coco-Mat developed the nap suite because they felt customers searching for the right bed needed more than just laying on a mattress for a few minutes to determine what’s right for them. The store extends its philosophy of graciousness to customers everyday by offering them free Greek food, freshly squeezed juice and espresso, regardless if they buy something. I wonder if there might be queues longer than those at the Apple stores after a new product release?! I can already see similarities between Steve Jobs and Coco-Mat founder Paul Efmorfidis, seriously!

Coco-mat beds are made from 100% natural materials and have a 96% recycling rate. They come without metal springs and instead use coconut fibers, seaweed gathered from Greek beaches, fibers culled from cactus plants and horsehair treated with natural rubber. While transportation might come with a big impact in order to ship the beds to the US, all the furniture is made in Greece using environmentally friendly manufacturing methods.

The New York store is located at 49 Mercer Street between Broome and Grand Streets. Happy napping!
