‘Turkey conned by US over Syria’

“Turkey has obviously been conned, they have been manipulated, the ambition and the vanity of [Prime Minister Recep Tayyip] Erdogan and [Foreign Minister Ahmet] Davutoglu, it seems to me has been played on systematically by [US President Barack] Obama,” said Webster Griffin Tarpley in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday.

Tarpley also stated that the Incirlik Air Base in the southern Turkish province of Adana serves as a “logistical hub… which is directing… weapons flow” to armed gangs in Syria.

The American author made the comments on the same day when the NBC News reported that nearly two dozen MANPADs (man-portable air-defense systems) have been delivered to the rebels in Syria by Turkey.

On July 22, the Turkish Anadolu Agency reported that Ankara has deployed ground-to-air missiles on its border with Syria.

Tarpley also pointed to the issue of al-Qaeda in the Syrian turmoil and said, “Think of al-Qaeda as the NATO irregular infantry, a guerilla force if you will, that works for NATO and this structure is already existing on the Turkish territory.”

“Al-Qaeda was an integrated part of this from the very beginning and they have been there because they have been brought in by NATO.”
