U.S. ignores the UN small arms treaty they signed and are selling arms to rogue nations

The U.S. has a long history of breaking signed treaties, even going back to the early part of the nation where they broke treaty after treaty with the Native American peoples. And like the facade of ‘lend-lease’ during World Wars I and II to paint a fake aura of neutrality to the rest of the world, the selling of war and arms to any supposed ally nation is acceptable to Washington, no matter if it is to terrorist groups fighting in Syria, or to rogue nations like Saudi Arabia to use against Yemen.

Remember back in 2013 when the U.S. signed onto the United National Small Arms Treaty parameters, which restricted the selling of arms to rogue and aggressive nations? Well, like nearly all treaties the government has signed since its inception, enforcement and integrity tied to their signature lasts about as long as it takes a corporation or political party to want to profit from breaking that treaty.

So it should come as no surprise that the U.S. Department of Defense just signed a deal where they would sell $11 billion worth of arms to Saudi Arabia, which is enlisted in an illegal war against their neighboring country of Yemen.

Defying the international call for an arms embargo over war crimes concerns, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced Tuesday it has approved an $11.25 billion deal to sell combat ships to Saudi Arabia, which has been waging a military assault against Yemen for more than six months.

“The selling of arms in the middle of a war will obviously send the message that the Saudis can do whatever they want and get away with it,” Farea Al-Muslimi, Beirut-based Yemeni writer and visiting scholar with Carnegie Middle East Center, told Common Dreams.

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, which is part of the DoD, announced Tuesday that is has rubber-stamped the export of four “Multi-Mission Surface Combatant (MMSC) Ships and associated equipment, parts and logistical support for an estimated cost of $11.25 billion” to Saudi Arabia. – The Anti-Media.org

Saudi Arabia unlawful attack against Yemen is precisely why the UN Small Arms Treaty was signed, and why all but three countries at the UN supported the initiative. But like Great Britain’s massive arms sale bazaar that they run every year, the selling of war to any nation with cash on hand by ‘Democratic’ countries in the West appears to always usurp any and all peace initiatives.
