‘UAE car crash leaves 5 dead’

The deadly accident happened on Saturday evening when a small sedan car carrying a Pakistani family swerved into the opposite lane, hitting an oncoming 4×4 car, AFP reported on Sunday.

The heavy impact broke up the car in two, killing a woman and three of her children, two girls aged seven and two and a boy aged four.

The driver of the 4×4, an Emirati man, was also killed but the man driving the car survived the accident and was taken to hospital.

Sharjah police officials said they believed speeding may have caused the accident.

Earlier this month, a truck ploughed into the back of the bus carrying 45 Asian workers near Al-Ain city, killing 22 and leaving 24 injured.

The UAE, which has a total population of more than eight million, has one of the world’s highest traffic accident rates relative to its population.
