“By all accounts Dallas should not have survived the devastating injury
that took his face but he did,” said Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, a plastic
surgeon.
“High level of sensitisation precluded him from matching a donor but he
did.
“All transplant recipients are expected to have a rejection episode but
he is the only patient who has not had one despite minimum levels of immune
suppression.”
Doctors hope that Mr Wiens will soon receive dental implants to help his
speech capabilities too.
