US terror drones wage shadow wars

Referring to the US drone attacks in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia, Conn Hallinan, columnist for Foreign Policy in Focus, told Press TV on Wednesday that the US aerial attacks are forming a shadow war as “there is at least three to four drone wars going on right now without really ever referring to the Congress or bringing the issue before the American people. “

“It is a stealth way of engaging in warfare.”

Washington claims its drone strikes target militants, although casualty figures clearly indicate that civilians are the main victims of the non-UN-sanctioned attacks.

Asked about the legality of the drone attacks Hallinan said, “I do not think they are legal under international law. Now the US argues that they do have the right to defend themselves under international law.”

Despite the Pakistani government’s repeated calls on Washington to end the drone attacks, the US government continues its strikes on the tribal regions of the country.

On Tuesday night, a US assassination drone fired two missiles on a building in the Shawal area, 50 kilometers southwest of Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan district, leaving at least five people dead and three others wounded.

The killing of Pakistani civilians, including women and children, in the US drone strikes has strained relations between the two allies, prompting Pakistani officials to send warnings to the US administration over the assaults.
