Where to see the Queen

Premier Anna Bligh has confirmed the program details for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to Brisbane.

On Monday, October 24, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will arrive in Brisbane and will participate in the following activities:

• Brisbane River Cruise from Bretts Wharf to South Bank

• Public Walk at Cultural Forecourt, South Bank

• Queensland Government Reception to acknowledge those affected by the natural disasters during the summer of 2010/11 (private event)

• Opening of Rain Bank, Rainforest Green, South Bank

• Luncheon hosted by the Governor of Queensland (private event).

“Although a very short visit, there is an opportunity for Queenslanders to welcome The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh to Brisbane,” Ms Bligh said.

People will be able to line the banks of the Brisbane River to welcome The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh as they make their way down the river and and later people can gather at the Cultural Forecourt at South Bank where The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will make a short public walk from the pontoon to QPAC.

“I will be hosting a special reception at QPAC to acknowledge the emergency personnel, volunteers, and those affected by the natural disasters during the summer of 2010/11.

“I’m delighted The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will be returning to South Bank,” the Premier said.

“It was on 30 April 1988 that The Queen officially opened World Expo 88, the catalyst for the resurrection of the South Bank area and the emergence of Brisbane as a vibrant, world class city.

“I’m sure Queenslanders will embrace this opportunity to come together and warmly welcome our Head of State,” the Premier said.

More details including public viewing points will be available at www.premiers.qld.gov.au/events/ro yal-visit.aspx closer to the visit date.

The last visit to Queensland by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh was in 2002 when they attended CHOGM at Coolum. The 2011 Royal Visit coincides with The Queen’s attendance at CHOGM in Perth this month.
