Woman, 20, fighting for her life after Northbridge crash

A young woman is fighting for her life in hospital after a serious crash in Northbridge early this morning.

The 20-year-old woman is in a critical condition after the car she was travelling in slammed into bollards and spun out on control on Roe Street about 1.40am.

The woman was a passenger in the Suzuki Swift, which had just turned onto Roe Street and was travelling east when it crossed onto the wrong side of the road.

The vehicle hit bollards before spinning out of control and hitting a wall in a car park close to the Metro City nightclub.

Major crash officers are investigating the crash.

Police are also investigating a crash that brought the Kwinana Freeway to a standstill during peak hour this morning.

A motorbike rider aged in his 20s was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital after his bike collided with a truck in the southbound lanes of the freeway, on the Mount Henry Bridge.

The man suffered serious internal injuries after he was thrown his bike and flung under the truck.

A number of other vehicles were also involved in the collision, however the rider was the only person injured.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Also overnight, a 26-year-old man was impaled by a steel pole that fell from a truck in Mardella late last night.

He remains in hospital this morning in a stable condition.

Police said the man was driving east along Lowlands Road in Mardella about 50 kilometres south of Perth, when a truck travelling in the opposite direction clipped his vehicle.

Inspector Barry Mann said that a steel pole fell from the truck, coming through the windscreen and impaling the man through his shoulder.

Fire and Emergency Services had to cut the man from the vehicle and he was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital.

The latest injuries have added to an already tragic 24 hours on WA roads after a 73-year-old woman was fatally run down in a driveway accident in Ashfield yesterday afternoon.

The woman was guiding her 85-year-old husband out of the Fisher Street driveway when he accidentally reversed over her before mounting the kerb and hitting a fence and another home.

The woman was resuscitated at the scene before being taken to Royal Perth Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries a short time later.
