Stock shares for Smith & Wesson (SW) are up more than 6% in premarket trading and they can thank the push before Christmas to thank for it.

SW are expecting sales to reach between $175 and $180 million by the end of January. And for the end of April, SW is projecting revenue for the company of an upwards of $660 million.

Currently, SW stock shares cost between $1.36 and $1.41 per share.

Conservatives have made this rise in profits for gun manufacturers happen with their visceral rhetoric and fear-mongering over gun control.

Thanks to the hype created by conservative and alternative media, guns sales for Christmas saw a huge upward rise of 24% over 2014. On Black Friday alone, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) processed 185,345 background checks for firearms.

Joe Walsh, conservative radio host and former congressman, calls this a “war” and advised his audience to consider that its “time for civil disobedience”.

Adding fuel to the fire, presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee took to Facebook to remind everyone that “Obama’s executive orders on gun control… are also unconstitutional and completely insane.”

Front and center is the National Rifle Association (NRA) who are leading the charge against any measures to tighten existing gun laws. Since this mega-lobby group has paid off so many of the lawmakers on Capitol Hill, the NRA is now digging in its heels against the president’s decision to choose executive orders, saying that he is “defying the will of the people and using executive action”.

Theologian Steve Byas wrote an op-ed piece for conservative media claiming that the president and “gun-control advocates” are using the ruse of common sense laws to really enact “outright confiscation of privately owned guns”.

Byas used the tried and true scare tactic that “gun laws don’t stop criminals” by invoking the San Bernardino shooters as proof that bad guys can obtain guns legally.

But what Byas and other like him fail to mention is that because of the NRA, laws restricting guns have been loosely applied and enforced.

In fact, the NRA was behind the lack of prohibition of terrorists on the FBI consolidated terrorist watch list (CTW) from purchasing a firearm legally or possessing explosive devices.

For nearly a decade now, the NRA has successfully stopped Congress from introducing bills to stop this loophole.

And as recent as 2015, the NRA DC objected to sensible protection measures that would have made it impossible for suspected terrorists to purchase guns, while including a provision for anyone accidentally placed on the CTW to challenge their status.

The NRA used their familiar battle cry and succeed in convincing lawmakers that gun control laws created by the Obama administration were aimed “primarily at law-abiding American gun owners,” and that “prohibiting the possession of firearms doesn’t stop criminals from illegally acquiring them,” and that the bills were “sponsored by gun control extremists.”

But what the NRA deglected to mention is that their organization has made it easier for firearms to get into the hands of criminals without having to break the law.

For example, Badger Guns out Wisconsin, is known for its staff who help strawman purchases by filling out paperwork for customers and assisting in making sure they pass background checks.

Badger Guns alone has been responsible for 537 guns used in criminal activity by ensuring those criminals were able to utilize gun law loopholes provided by the NRA and their financed lawmakers in Washington, DC.

Mass shootings are helped by gun stores because of the allowance of “default proceed” sales which are at the discretion of the gun store owner. This type of sale can go through regardless of whether or not the buyer is legally eligible to possess a firearm.

In other words, a person can purchase a gun and have it in their possession before the background check is concluded.

And thanks to a 2015 study produced by the Harvard University’s Injury Control Research Center, “firearm suicide rates are higher in states with higher rates of gun ownership, underscoring the relationship between the availability of guns and firearm suicides.”

Making matters worse, the Harvard study confirmed that 40% of gun owners purchased their last firearm without a background check.
