Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered to give the US Congress a transcript of the meeting foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and ambassador Sergey Kislyak on May 10th.
Formally the Kremlin is denying Trump shared highly classified intelligence with Lavrov and Kislyak. In addition, Putin’s government has denied Lavrov gave that intelligence to any Russian intelligence agency; calling such ideas “political schizophrenia”.
Putin told the media: “If the administration of the United States deems this possible, we will be ready to provide a transcript of the Lavrov-Trump meeting to the US Senate and Congress. It will happen if the US administration wishes so.”
In accord with Putin, Trump asserted on Twitter his “absolute right” to share highly classified information if he chooses to.

Furthering the narrative that Trump did not share sensitive intelligence with the Russians, National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster told the press that claims otherwise are “false” and Trump “had a conversation that was inappropriate or that resulted in any kind of lapse in national security.”
McMaster was referring to the Washington Post article recounting how “Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting” on May 10th.
He continued on, blaming them media for putting “our national security… at risk by those violating confidentiality and by those releasing information to the press that could be used and connected with other information available to make American citizens and others more vulnerable.”
Interestingly, McMaster went to great lengths not to explain why he mentioned “sources and methods” when the Washington Post article did not discuss such things – only that Trump had revealed “classified information by one of our allies.”
Another fact left out of the official White House narrative is the evidence showing that Trump did reveal sensitive classified information to the Russians that would not only endanger lives, but threaten intelligence-sharing agreements between nations.
Back in April, CNN reported on a terrorist threat involving laptops and commercial airplanes. At the time, journalist Evan Perez contacted the White House concerning the intelligence he had come across and asked questions of the administration prior to publishing.
Perez was told by the Trump administration not to publish the name of the city where the intelligence originated. The White House warned Perez that to do so would place the source and others involved at risk.
CNN news commentator Jake Tapper explained: “Before reporting this on CNN, Perez talked to Trump administration officials who cautioned Perez and subsequently CNN executives to not report on certain details about the threat – including the city from which some of the intelligence was collected.
Tapper recalled the White House said “that by reporting the city’s name that would tip off American adversaries about sources and methods used to gather that intelligence.”
According to the White House, printing the name of the city “would get people killed.”
And yet, despite McMaster’s denial-non-denial, the Washington Post revealed that during the Oval Office meeting with Lavrov and Kislyak, Trump revealed the name of that same city when discussing the highly sensitive intelligence.
That small detail jeopardizes the life or lives of those who are embedded in the Islamic State and passing along vital information about the inner workings of this well-known terrorist group.
