‘Easing anti-Iran sanctions likely’

Negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 have been going on for a long time. I hope that Baghdad meeting will yield satisfactory results, Jose Filipe Moraes Cabral said on Wednesday.

He added that any decision about a probable reduction of the UN sanctions against Iran could be made after the results of Baghdad talks come out.

The US, the Israeli and several European countries have accused Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program and have used the false allegation as a pretext to push the UN Security Council to impose four rounds of sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Iran has strongly rejected the allegations.

If the sides show more flexibility, there is hope that talks will end in successfully, Cabral pointed out.

Iran and the P5+1 – Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany — wrapped up the first round of their latest negotiations on April 14 in the Turkish city of Istanbul. Both sides hailed the talks as constructive.

The next round of talks will be held in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on May 23.
