TCP : Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his U.S. counterpart John Kerry discussed preparations for Middle East peace conference, scheduled for May 30 in France to resume Palestine-Israel peace talks, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid in a statement Friday.
The meeting tackled other international and regional issues of the mutual concerns, particularly Libya and Syria; besides the bilateral relations, Abu Zeid added.
Shoukry is currently visiting Washington upon an invitation by Kerry during his last visit to Cairo on April 19, Abu Zeid noted.
On April 21, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault announced that France will host a conference on Middle East peace that aims to resume the stalled negotiations between Palestinians and Israel on May 30. It will be attended by Foreign Ministers of Arab and European countries.
Jean-Marc Ayrault will pay a visit to Jerusalem to meet with President Abbas and Netanyahu to discuss ways to resume talks to reach two-state solution, the French Foreign Ministry announced in a statement.
The U.S-brokered peace negotiations were suspended after President Abbas announced in 2014 a unity government to include Fatah and Hamas representatives; a reconciliation that was rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Six days ago, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and his Palestinian counterpart discussed international and regional efforts to resume stalled peace talks between Palestine and Israel Monday, said Egypt presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef in a statement.
President Sisi called for an end to the increasing settlements and providing Palestinians with full rights. He also highlighted the necessity to establish the Palestinian State on borders of 1967 with Eastern Jerusalem as a capital city, said Youssef.
