AN 11-year-old boy shot twice during an apparent home invasion in Adelaide’s northwest is believed to be the son of a bikie gang member.
Police say a number of people allegedly forced their way into a home in suburban Semaphore last night and discharged “a number of gunshots”.
Soon after, an 11-year-old boy arrived at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with two gunshot wounds to his leg.
Police said in a statement today that the boy, whose injuries are not life-threatening, is believed to be the son a Finks bikie gang member.
Superintendent Howard Davies said in Adelaide that the incident was not random and that the Semaphore property was known by police as the home of a full member of the Finks bikie gang.
He said witnesses are refusing to provide police with information.
“We have an innocent child caught up in what is clearly bikie related violence and witnesses no doubt have valuable information that can assist police,” said Supt Davies.
“If we had full cooperation, there is no doubt police would be able to progress their investigation faster.”
Retaliation attacks were a concern, Supt Davies said.
“Police are obviously concerned about on-going violence between members of outlaw motorcycle gangs and the possible threat of retaliation,” said Supt Davies.
The boy has been transferred to the Women and Children’s Hospital, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
