Carmel Forest

Two villages in Israel are buzzing after a possible murder suicide of a young engaged couple was discovered, according to reports in the news media.

The bodies of a young Israeli couple engaged to be married were found last week in the Carmel forest, prompting police to investigate the possibility of a murder-suicide or a double suicide, committed in the midst of a family dispute.

A hiker walking on a trail in west Carmel Saturday morning noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the woods, and decided to approach it. The hiker then discovered the body of Kayouf Hakim, 26, hanging from a tree. He alerted authorities, who found the body of Qadur iJam, 19, stabbed to death.

An initial investigation found that deaths occurred hours before the bodies were found. Last night, two Qadur brothers, residents of the Druze village of Daliat al-Karmel, were arrested for assaulting Kayouf, a garage owner in Isfiya, another Druze village. The relatives of the girl and her boyfriend seemed to have some kind of dispute, whose nature is unknown to police so far.

The chief of police said investigators have yet to rule out any scenario, including a double homicide. He said signs of violence were found on both bodies, but did not address the possibility that the body markings on Kayouf resulted from an attack last night.

Ofer Yaakov, a paramedic, told the news media that the two were pronounced dead at the scene.
Relatives of the deceased arrived at the scene during the day, but were denied access by the police.
A government official told the news media in Isfiya that the Qadur family identified the case as a murder-suicide, while the Kayuf family insisted it was a double homicide.

“I think some people wanted the two dead,” he said. “It was a set up. Someone killed the two and hung Hakim on a tree so police think he killed her and then himself.”
Isfiya Wajia, mayor of Kayuf said the incident caused a stir in the city.
“We are doing everything possible to calm down the families,” he said. “We are in contact with the police and we are closely following the investigation.
