Pro-Pollard protest

Another mass appeal to President Obama that he should free Pollard was held last week.

Last week, 1,200 rabbis appealed to U.S. President Barack Obama to release the long imprisoned Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard.

The request came during a conference call held on Friday with Obama, in which rabbis and Jewish community leaders in advance of the high holy days of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year discussed important issues with the president.

At the beginning of the call, a delegation of rabbis presented the president with a joint request for

the release of Pollard.

He is currently completing his 27th year in prison for a crime that normally carries a maximum penalty of two to four years after passing classified information to an ally nation.

Pollard was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1980 for passing classified information to Israel.

Sources who participated in the press conference after the talks, said: “We hope that in these days when we pray for mercy and compassion, the President will be fair and end this tragedy that overshadows the joy of the holidays for many Jewish people.”
