3 injured in Damascus suburb blast

According to Syrian media reports, a bomb-laden vehicle exploded in front of the checkpoint, located in a suburb of the capital.

Clashes between government forces and armed groups erupted following the explosion.

The incidents came a day after talks among world powers in Geneva on the unrest in Syria.

UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Kofi Annan said at a press conference after the negotiations that diplomats who had gathered in Geneva reached an agreement on a Syrian-led transitional governing body that “could include members of the present government and the opposition and other groups, and shall be formed on the basis of mutual consent.”

The foreign ministers of Russia, China, Britain, France, Turkey, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq, as well as the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, the Arab League Secretary-General, Nabil El-Araby, and the secretary of state of the United States had attended the meeting.

Syria has been the scene of violence by armed groups since March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of hundreds of people, including many security forces.

Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
