4 Afghan police killed in Taliban attack

Two policemen were injured and three others went missing in the late Wednesday attack, said deputy governor of Badakhshan Shams ul-Rahman on Thursday, the Associated Press reported.

Ul-Rahman claimed that militants from other Central Asian countries helped Taliban during the raid.

Badakhshan province is in Afghanistan’s far northeast and borders Pakistan, Tajikistan and China.

The militants have stepped up their attacks against Afghan government forces and US-led foreign troops across Afghanistan in the early weeks of Taliban’s “spring offensive.”

Separately, eight Taliban militants were killed in an operation carried out by Afghan forces in the southern province of Kandahar.

Insecurity continues to climb across Afghanistan despite the presence of nearly 130,000 US-led forces in the Asian country.

Roadside bombs and improvised explosive devices (IED) are by far the most lethal weapons the Taliban militants use against the Afghan and foreign troops, as well as ordinary civilians.
