“67.8 million Americans will throw down an estimated $23.1 billion on the big game in 2024 — a new record.”

I have to admit, I made my Super Bowl wager yesterday — Niners by 7 — and it felt much better than putting my name down in one of those stupid squares my dad’s friends used to make me fill in every year. Sports betting is huge right now, and it’s easy to see that it’s not helping us as a society. However, that doesn’t change the fact that one in four, an estimated 67.8 million Americans, will throw down an estimated $23.1 billion on the big game in 2024 — a new record.

Let’s take a look at these numbers:

A record 67.8 million American adults are expected to bet $23.1 billion on Super Bowl LVIII, according to a new American Gaming Association survey. The estimated number of bettors has increased 35% from the previous Super Bowl, while the total amount being bet is estimated to have shot up from $16 billion in 2023.

Both figures would represent records – fitting for a Super Bowl held in Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the U.S.

One in every four Americans!!! And a 35% increase from just last year.

That’s nuts!!

We’re just a bunch of degenerate gamblers now, I guess.

Bro, I hope y’all are out there betting against the Swifties like I am.

Though I’d rather the money stay even so Vegas doesn’t make any local calls on Sunday if you know what I mean.

Look for this trend to continue throughout the years, especially with the rise of online sports betting. Though I’d probably consider this year’s game a bit of an outlier since it’s actually being played in Vegas, which is giving everybody the gambling fever.

Speaking of, here’s every sports bettor heading into Super Bowl weekend:

And when the game is over, well, we all know how that goes. You win some you lose some. But Vegas always wins.

This new record just absolutely shattered those of Super Bowls past, which is cool but also sort of a bad look for our culture. I wonder how many of the 67.8 million people throwing down bets are Swifties. And I wonder how many of those Swifties actually put the correct bet in at the window.
