82-Year-Old’s Brother Died 35 Years Ago……Then A Family Friend Tells Him To Turn On The T.V.

Ben Oakes is an 82 year old man and when he was asked if he would appear on a television program that was focused on centenarians, he never could have predicted what would end up happening next. A family friend arranged a special phone call and this led to one of the most special moments that we have ever had the privilege of witnessing. Joey, Ben’s younger brother by 17 years, was the voice that he heard on the other end.

Can you imagine the shock that Ben must have felt when he first heard Joey? While this type of phone call was already shocking enough for a number of reasons, this correspondence was even more stunning because of one simple fact. Ben had been led to believe that Joey was deceased. It had been a whopping 35 years since the two men had actually exchanged words.

Ben expressed his gratitude in his interview and said that he was happy to reconnect with Joey before he takes the big sleep. For Joey’s part, he does not view Ben’s life in such a manner and is looking forward to spending more time with the war hero that he has always looked up to. Each of them lived abroad during adulthood, but had no idea that they both resided in the same general area of New Zealand.

Joey and Ben lived just 100 miles from one another and according to Joey, Ben had struggled to deal with the passing of their mother. The two brothers lost touch with one another and when Joey turned on the television one night to see Ben speaking about his life, he knew that he had to track him down as quickly as possible. This led to one of the most emotional reunions that you will ever see.

The brothers both lamented the amount of time that they had spent apart and vowed to never let it happen again. Joey and Ben are now focused on maximizing the amount of time that they have left together and creating all new memories. Ben has lived a chaotic life, fighting in wars and going through multiple divorces. Joey’s reappearance has brought him a tremendous level of peace…something that he never thought was possible.
