A FATHER of four was shot in the chest as his girlfriend and two of his children slept beside him, his friends have said.
Matthew Hedges, 25, died yesterday after neighbours reported hearing about four gunshots coming from a house on Biara Street, in Chester Hill, about 1.45am. Superintendent Dave Eardley of Bankstown police said the killing involved ”a degree of planning”.
”Someone out there knows who has committed this crime and where the firearms are being held,” he said. Police would not comment on whether Mr Hedges, who was recently released from jail, had any drug or bikie links.
Nearby resident Rod Eime said he heard a woman shout ”get out, leave me alone” before the shots.
A friend of Mr Hedges, known as Gary, said the offender ”broke in through a bedroom window”.
Superintendent Eardley said it was not known how the offender fled.
