Francisca your comment hit the nail on the head. So many do not work nowadays but epect it all to be paid by benefits, most do not know what it is like to work 40 odd years and then thankfully retire, like you say on a pittance.

Captain Kirk love to know what you do for a living, its made you so cynical!

I worked from the age of 14 until I was 68, paid all my taxes, had my private pensions robbed by Brown, I’m not pleading poverty , but I cant afford three holidays a year.
However my conscience is clear, I did my bit for the country over the years, and you youngsters who are slagging us oldies off must remember you will be old one day. You must do as we did save for your old age, so many young ones think the country owes them a living, it dosn’t.

S*d the next generation, let them flog their guts out like I had to for fifty years doing jobs that they would probably think are below them. I paid enormous amounts of tax but I saved money for my retirement and always pay my way. The tone of some of these posters are that they think the world owes them a living, it dosn’t, get on with it and make your own future!

Worked all my life, every few years redundancy no chance to save for old age lucky if company have a pension scheme or pay over minimum wage. Finding it hard to keep the pace in the modern world that wants you to work so fast and longer hours I’m tired and have no choice. Then now have to work till 66 for the privelidge of getting a pittance.

So much for granny tax, if you can afford 3 holidays per year you can afford granny tax, about time the old started paying their way.

captain kirk, if you feel that you are paying for these people where did the money from their pensions go? They worked for many years, paid for their pensions, I suppose some put money aside as well (not that you would know what that means) and are now enjoying the fruits of it and you complain???? Isn’t that what life should be all about? Working hard and in the end if you are still alive having a bit of fun? Or should it be like the governments wish, they live the high life and we, the slaves do nothing but work till we drop? Know what? Spend your time feeling jealous, they lead a busy, productive life and now enjoy the years they have left! My husband has just retired, we are still youngish and intend to make the most of whatever time we have left, whether you like it or not!
Very annoying of this paper to be always blaming pensioners for everything! Revere them, they were the last generation to work hard and bring up solid families, you won’t see that ever again!
