Anders Behring Breivik trial: Oslo ‘like a war zone’ after bomb went off

He went straight to the scene and tried to coordinate and get an action plan
into place along with all the emergency services.

Mr Langli described to the court how he received the news about the shootings
on Utøya, 25 miles from Oslo. He said that he had been standing next to an
officer from Delta, Norway’s
anti-terror unit, when he saw from his the reaction on his face “that
something was very serious”, he said. It had been reported that as many
as 50 people had been shot on the island at that stage.

Svein Olav Christensen and bomb expert employed by the Norwegian Ministry of
Defence gave evidence to show the damage the bomb can cause.

With the aid of anatomical images, the coroner, Arne Stray-Pedersen, showed
the autopsy reports today of the first four of the eight victims who died on
22 July last year in Norway’s worst terror attack in peacetime.

Those victims closest to the bomb site died from massive injuries to such an
extent that their body parts were found in many locations.

Breivik has confessed to the bombing and the subsequent shootings on Utøya
which claimed the lives of a total of 77 people. He continues to maintain
that the twin attacks were “necessary” in order to prevent
advancing “multiculturalism” as espoused in the ideal of Norway’s
governing Labour Party.
