Antibiotics… The Whole Truth

The role of antibiotics has dramatically changed over the years. Once
considered a “magic bullet”, antibiotics are now over-prescribed and
ineffective (at best) as a treatment option. In fact, antibiotic (or
anti-life) drugs have been linked to the onset of allergies, cancer and
many other inflammatory conditions.

Conventionally speaking, antibiotics are promoted as beneficial because
they kill bacteria which supposedly threaten our health. But now, they
are rapidly earning a place in the hall of medical shame. They are
responsible for the destruction of friendly bacteria such as
bifidobacteria in the large intestine, and acidophilus in the small
intestines and vagina which offer protection against yeast and fungal
infections.

The underlying causes of dis-ease in your gut

Antibiotic usage promotes yeast overgrowth (Candida) and a loss of
nutrients by disrupting the population of beneficial bacteria in the
gut, which influence the availability of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12,
vitamin A, folic acid, zinc and magnesium. When your gut is out of
balance – allergies are common place and immune function is suppressed.

A recent study in mice showed that intestinal bacteria can trigger
mammary carcinoma. Increased estrogen exposure is a risk factor for the
development of breast cancer. Intestinal bacteria affect bile acid
metabolism, sequestering of bile acids by probiotic bacteria helps with
the effective removal of estrogen. Optimal bacteria reduce the
possibility of re-absorption of estrogens by facilitating bile
excretion.

Studies have found that women who took antibiotics for more than 500
days or had 25 plus prescriptions over an average period of 17 years has
twice the risk of breast cancer as women who had taken no antibiotics.
Also, even women who had between 1 and 25 prescriptions over an average
period of 17 years were 1.5 times more likely to be diagnosed with
breast cancer than those women who didn’t take any antibiotics. The
authors of the study found the risk across all classes of antibiotics.

Another study suggests that deregulated host immune responses by
altered bacteria population can influence the development of intestinal
cancers. This highlights the need to promote intestinal homeostasis. If
you want a healthy gut – find an alternative to antibiotic usage with
the help of a trained naturopathic physician.

Shop smart to protect your health

Americans are exposed 70 times a day to toxic chemicals poisons in the
food they eat. The FDA notes that there are over 50 different known
poisons and toxins in the products that fill the average American
grocery cart.

There are some simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your
family. Powerful health strategies start by what you put into your body
and what you avoid eating. Unwanted antibiotic consumption can be found
in commercial beef, dairy, farm raised fish, poultry, water and
antibacterial agents. If you want to avoid chronic disease – do NOT
purchase factory-farmed foods.

Antibacterial agents used to disinfect countertops and other surfaces
can cause serious health problems. Commercial soaps, detergents,
personal care items and household cleaning products are extremely toxic.
You can avoid these poisons by purchasing all-natural products from
reliable sources in your local health food store.

The aggressive marketing of antibiotics has been profitable – but has
it really helped us live healthier lives? The use of antibiotics is
based on the false assumption that germs make us sick. The truth is a
weak immune system is the greatest threat to human health.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association,
prescription drugs kill 106,000 people per year. This is without taking
in to account the long term problems brought on by antibiotics.

To protect yourself start doing what will create powerful health so you
can avoid a medically-dominated lifestyle. Strengthen your immune
system by eating a plant-based diet, stay hydrated, exercise and enjoy
life – starting right now!
