As wildfires rage across Texas, feds take control and scuttle volunteer firefighters

As fires raged across central Texas for the past three days, local citizens sprang into action to protect their lives and property. Local churches opened their doors and began hosting refugees left homeless by the fires which have now destroyed more than 1,000 homes and 100,000 acres across the state in just the past week.

Several branches of the YMCA also began hosting families with children, and a public school in Bastrop County opened its doors to serve as an emergency relief center.

See a YouTube video of a citizen’s narrow escape around Highway 21 near Bastrop, Texas:

Hundreds of firefighters from all the surrounding counties worked two days and nights in a heroic effort to contain the fires, but high winds Sunday night and all day Monday thwarted their efforts. So the call went out for more volunteer firefighters to join the effort from across the state.

Before they arrived, however, the federal government showed up and claimed it was in charge of the situation. “Agents with the federal National Interagency Fire Center, a coalition of federal agencies including the U.S. Forest Service, assumed command of firefighting efforts Tuesday afternoon,” reports The Gonzales Cannon (http://www.gonzalescannon.com/node/6411).

RealNewsReporter.com is now reporting that volunteer firefighters who had in some cases driven all night to reach Bastrop county were turned away by the feds, who claimed that since local officials never made a “formal request” for volunteers, the volunteers could not be “activated.”

So while Bastrop County burns from 40+ fires that are still raging, the federal government is actually telling volunteer firefighters to go home.

“We were at the station getting set up into strike teams, and this guy came up and said that the U.S. Forest Service had ‘assumed control of the situation, and that If you don’t have a vehicle that squirts water, go home,’ said Gordon Greer of Kirbyville, in a RealNewsReporter article (http://www.realnewsreporter.com/?p=7889). Gordon reportedly drove all night Monday to arrive in Bastrop and take part in the firefighting effort. “You’ve got guys who had driven all night long from Corpus Christi and Brownsville on their own dime, and they turned them away,” he said.

That same story reports that Jennifer Jones of theU.S. National Interagency Incident Centerconfirmed multiple federal agencies would be taking over the scene. Tuesday afternoon, the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management stated on its Facebook page that volunteer firefighters would have to be “activated by the National Forestry Service first.”

In other words, if you’re a local Texan and you want to help other Texans save their ranches, or their homes, or their businesses, you need permission from the federal bureaucracy first!

But some Texans aren’t allowing their efforts to be thwarted. As Real News Reporter says in its story, a group of Texas Nationalist Movement members who are also certified firefighters are in the Bastrop area and aiding civilian relief efforts, with or without permission from Washington D.C.

FEMA is approving grant money to help pay for some firefighting efforts

On the good news side, FEMA has reportedly approved several government grants to pay for firefighting efforts, although it should be mentioned that if the federal government wasn’t taking so much of everybody’s money to begin with, local groups of people could more easily afford to pay for their own firefighting defense and wouldn’t need grants to cover the costs in the first place.

  3. Why mess with Texas? Here’s why.

Learn what Osama, Obama, Biden, Bin Laden, the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists, and Sarah Palin had to do with the last election and the military’s overthrow of our government. Search PalinsDirtyLittleSecret.blogspot and learn the biggest story in the history of our country and the world before it gets deleted.

  4. An apparent commonality of many, if not ALL, of these fires are the literally thousands of illegal aliens camping in the bush along with their campfires. Upon urging from me or on his own, more likely..no one listens to me!!..the founder of SDMM investigated recorded video evidence of this very thing. Anyone that has done any camping, or has common sense, realizes that open fires in heavily brushed areas, especially when wind is a component, is a potential fire hazard, if not a sure thing. These are all facts….not conjecture. I have witnessed evidence of and functioning open fire pits in many of the illegal alien areas that I have been to.
AJ, just briefly mentioned this, but in true PC fashion referred to them as homeless yesterday as his state is literally burning to the ground. This is just one more level of cost of being all nicey-nicey to the illegal alien hordes that have invaded the US! It is way past time to send everyone home along with their babies that we have paid for..and fix their own countries .. OR NOT..their choice.

  8. EXACT same thing happened in N.O. after Katrina. A local sheriff, or parish president – can’t remember, broadcast a request for people with boats to help. I heard the plea on the local radio station. Within hours hundreds from all over south Louisiana hitched up their metal John boats, which are best for shallow water navigation near sharp obstacles, and headed for N.O. to help rescue people stranded in and on buildings flooded by the toxic soup. When they showed up the Fed boys told them to turn around and go home or be arrested and thrown in federal prison if they didn’t. Meanwhile they (the Federals), the vast majority of whom were from other parts of the country and knew nothing about N.O., south Louisiana, or even operating little John boats in rescue, wasted time, money, food and water swaggering around arguing over who was in charge and threatening anyone who tried to do anything to help others with arrest.

Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco got bum reputations for appearing innefective when in reality behind the scenes they were being arm-twisted and slapped around like little b*tches by the federal boys. They were both overwhelmed at the outset, but who wouldn’t be? But soon enough the larger problems, like the infamous Superdome, would have been resolved once locals got going. (Compare with Lake Charles and hurricane Rita.)

Stupid media saw all this and immediately blamed Bush for the chaotic, wasteful response, and as the remedy demanded MORE command and control for FEMA.

You’ll see … volunteer fire departments will now somehow either be federalized or eliminated and replaced by a tentacle of FEMA.

  9. It is yet early today, but I’m a little surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that Rick Perry is allowing the Federal government to take over these operations and send Texas firefighters homes. Shouldn’t Rick be standing up to the Feds and telling them “to go home!”? Better yet, “Go home and you just send the financial aid we need to puts these fires out, since FEMA has already going to furnish 75% of the costs and services it is approving!”

Today, Alex will be able to excoriate Rick Perry for not stopping the Feds from making this move. Rick better act today to get the Federal gov’t out of this problem, or Rick is going to lose more supporters. Everything Rick does should be destroying him politically, right at the very time when the Globalists think they are sewing up Rick’s nomination for the Republican Party. He’s not stupid, just scared to death.

Why isn’t Rick Perry stopping the Federal government from intervening when it has no constitutional authority to do so? Oh, the FEMA and the Forest Service et alia have statutory authority or some authority based on Presidential directives? Those are all unconstitutional anyway. So, a writ of certiorari is in order accompanying a suit to stop the Fed’s madness. Somebody must file a suit to stop the Federal government right now, while Rick Perry simultaneously stands up for the 10th Amendment and States’ rights, of which he so often professes himself to be a defender. He did so just last night on TBN in an interview with Matt Crouch and his wife! I watched it and heard him say it.

What are you folks missing here this morning? Again, it is still early.

    • Lays bare all that big talk of secession, doesn’t it?

Come on Alex, do your Yosemite Sam as Rick Perry impersonation.

    • And reminder evidence is Alex’s work just several months ago when the Texas Legislature was trying to pass TSA anti-groping legislation, and Rick Perry’s successful efforts to thwart passage of that legislation, with an assist from CIA functionary David Dewhurst, who is now running for Kay Bailey Hutchinson’s Senate seat.

I am wondering if Rick is getting paid a stipend by the TSA, DHA, FEMA and the US Forest Service et alia. Maybe in the tens or hundreds of millions to some untraceable bank account in Switzerland? Well, that’s probably something we can never know.

And by the way, in Matt Crouch’s interview last night with Rick Perry on TBN, they used a couple of video clips where Rick actually used the name of Jesus, especially at his recent prayer get together in Houston’s Reliant Stadium. I’m a professing Christian, so I am wondering how Rick being one also, sits by any does nothing to stop FEMA’s actions yesterday, while helping David Dewhurst stop TSA anti-groping legislation. Rick needs to get a backbone, maybe like those of our Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence, at least comparable to those Founding Fathers who survived as a result of their actions.

  10. How big of a cowards are the politicians to hide behind these “natural” disasters? That’s all I can think is they are such cowards.

  11. It was an amazingly sick feeling that I wont soon forget…there were a lot of guys there that came to do nothing but help…I’m still sick over it

    • You deserve a big “Thank You” for going up to help. THANK YOU.

  12. This is over a paperwork error! Watch, next the corporate government media will be on a witch hunt for some 6$ an hour employee that did not know to file the proper paperwork. This will shift from the feds botching the emergency like they did in New Orleans, to hang the low level guy. Texas should have acted like they had a pair and ran the feds off.

    • Like we should have at the siege of the Davidian ranch in Waco.

      That constituted a foreign invasion!

  13. Count yourselves extraordinarily fortunate that the US Navy/GE Corporate Welfare Fukushima criminally negligent improper fuel storage disaster radiation is not raining down on you.
