Bahraini police clash with protesters

Clashes occured on Friday after Saudi-backed forces attacked protesters.

Activists say several protesters have been injured in the violence.

Demonstrators had taken to the streets to call for the downfall of the regime and the release of prisoners.

The protests came a day after Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ratified amendments to the country’s constitution.

Major Bahraini opposition party Al-Wefaq has criticized the reforms, saying they fail to meet the party’s demands, which consist of the establishment of an elected government and the nullification of the upper house of the parliament, Consultative Council, whose members are appointed by the king.

Bahraini activists say at least nine people have been killed by regime forces across the country since March 17, 2012.

Anti-regime demonstrators hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for the death of the protesters during the popular February 2011uprising.

The Manama regime has also dismissed thousands of workers for taking part in anti-government demonstrations since the beginning of the revolution.
