According to reports , Congressman Michael Capuano attended a closed-door meeting with his fellow House Democrats to discuss the idea of impeaching Donald Trump.

Capuano warned his colleagues that “emotions are high” and there needs to be “a discussion within the caucus — in a public forum — before we do something that would position our colleagues or our future colleagues.”

The concern is that “political and government” implications are not being discussed because the movement to impeach Trump is gaining traction.

Congressman Brad Sherman is circulating a letter to Congress, arguing that there is enough evidence now to begin impeachment proceedings; as well as “the national interest requires that we do so.”

In the 4-page document, Sherman asserts that Trump is using “use his authority to hinder and cause the termination” of the FBI’s investigation into Flynn; including “threatening, and then terminating, James Comey.”

In a statement, Sherman added: “I have no illusions. Articles of Impeachment will not pass the House in the near future. But given the risk posed to the Republic, we should move things forward as quickly as possible.”

Sherman explained that “as to Obstruction of Justice and 18 USC § 1512 (b)(3), the evidence we have is sufficient.”

According to his letter, Sherman points out that “a finding of ‘High Crimes and Misdemeanors’ does not require the violation of any particular criminal statute. I believe that Trump’s use of threats to obstruct the ongoing criminal investigations of Michael Flynn clearly violate 18 U.S.C. 1512(b)(3); Violations of that section are a felony. Trump’s efforts to obstruct the investigation of his campaign’s possible collusion with Russia violated the same statute.”

The public is also on-board with Sherman. As of May, a Public Policy Polling survey showed that 48% of Americans favor Trump being impeached.

Taking this a step further, Journalist Jason Fuller said : “We may not yet have 100% incontrovertible proof of their collusion, the administration’s attempts to hide previous contacts with the Russians, their willingness to blatantly lie about their communications, and the contents of Trump’s meetings with former FBI director Comey are all incriminating on their own. And Trump’s decision to fire Comey specifically to hamper that investigation is obstruction of justice, no matter what spin he or anyone else puts upon it.”

Accusing Trump of treason, Fuller applies the same logic to “top-ranking White House and Republican aides, including — but likely not limited to — Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, and Vice President Pence” because “they support his agenda and are helping to protect him means that they are accessories and are thus also committing acts of treason.”
