Beyonce Sends First Tweet, Launches Tumblr Blog and Redesigns Website

The online presence of global pop star Beyonce Knowles looks drastically different than it did 24 hours ago.

The @Beyonce verified Twitter account, which has existed since April 2009, came alive Thursday morning when it sent a tweet that directed her more than 3.5 million followers to the redesigned Beyonce.com. And she launched a Tumblr blog to mark her and Jay-Z’s fourth anniversary of marriage.

Beyonce’s 137-character tweet (below) was followed 30 minutes later by a message from @TwitterMusic, which excitedly welcomed Beyonce to the online birdcage of 140 million active users.

Despite this being Beyonce’s first tweet, her star power had already left a mark on Twitter.

For a while in 2011, Beyonce’s MTV Video Music Awards pregnancy revelation held Twitter’s top tweets-per-second record. On Aug. 28, Beyonce sang, “I want you to feel the love that’s growing inside me,” confirming she and Jay-Z would be having a baby. At the end of the song, she dropped her mic, unbuttoned her top and rubbed her baby bump. The MTV moment is now number five on the top tweets-per-second list.

The baby, Blue Ivy Carter, was born Jan. 7 and immediately made a vocal cameo in Jay-Z’s song “Glory.”

A month later, five pictures of the newborn emerged on a Tumblr blog titled “HelloBlueIvyCarter.” The text on the Tumblr blog read, “We welcome you to share in our joy. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this this beautiful time in our lives. The Carter Family.”

The famous couple followed up that blog with another one this week. The new, photo-heavy “I Am” Tumblr blog was published Wednesday, four years after Beyonce and Jay-Z wed. The splash page (above) reads, “This is my life, today, over the years — through my eyes. My family, my travels, my love. This is where I share with you, this will to continue to grow as I do. Love, Beyonce.”

Beyonce also introduced a revamped Beyonce.com, which features news, music, a fan page (the Beyhive), photos and a link to the Tumblr blog.
