A MAN will appear in court today after police charged him with attempted murder following a domestic-related stabbing incident.

Police and other emergency services were called to residential premises in Saddington Street, St Marys, in Sydney’s west, following reports a female had sustained a number of stab wounds, about 7.15pm last night.

The 35-year-old woman was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital.

She has undergone surgery and is in a serious but stable condition, NSW Police said in a statement.

A crime scene was established and investigators from St Marys Local Area Command attempted to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police inquiries took them to a home in Redfern where a 26-year-old man was arrested without incident.

The man who was known to the woman was taken to Redfern Police Station and later charged with attempt murder.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear in the Parramatta Bail Court later today.
