British stars gather in Hollywood ahead of Oscars

He said: “The UK has a truly world class film industry with amazing
people both in front of and behind the camera. This not only contributes to
the enormous success of Hollywood film studios but has a hugely positive
impact on the British economy.

“As the UK gears up for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games, there’s no better time to celebrate the best
Britain has to offer in film and creativity.”

The British contingent is unlikely to match the success of last year, when The
King’s Speech
won best picture, but there are more than 20 British
nominees at this year’s Oscars.

They were supported by fashion designer Victoria Beckham, whose dresses are
expected to be worn by some of the celebrities attending the awards. Mrs
Beckham said her favourite actresses are Tilda Swinton and Michelle
Williams, who is nominated in the best actress category for her role in My
Week with Marilyn
