British woman ‘shell-shocked’ after finishing solo ski run across Antarctica

“Obviously it’s a huge physical challenge but the thing I struggled with
the most is the mental challenge of it. It was all about the mental side for
me really. Particularly the first three weeks.

“When I first got dropped off it was on what I considered to be the wrong
side of Antarctica. It’s the side where there’s not usually a lot of
activity in terms of people skiing to the poles and so it really did feed
quite isolated, very remote and being on my own was something I didn’t
expect to struggle with,” Ms Aston said.

Ms Aston has previously worked in the Antarctica as a researcher and weather
expert.
