Britons want UK Chancellor to go

A ComRes poll for The Independent has revealed that only 34 percent of the British people believe Osborne should remain in his current post, with the same proportion urging Prime Minister David Cameron to axe him and install Cable at the Treasury and the remaining 32 percent being “don’t knows”.

Official figures released by Britain’s Office for National Statistics last week showed that the British economy was deeper in recession than predicted by earlier forecasts. Official figures showed the British economy contracted by 0.7 percent in the second quarter of 2012 despite forecasts for a 0.2 percent contraction.

Following the bleak reports, business leaders and economic experts piled the pressure on Osborne warning the UK would face a triple-dip recession.

British Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls said the British government’s “sit on your hands” strategy of hoping the Olympics would boost the country’s economy was very dangerous.

The findings of the poll come as Cameron is to reshuffle his ministerial team after the parliament’s summer break. However, British Premier’s aides have made clear that he will not move his Chancellor in the ministerial reshuffle.
