Brunei military copter crash kills 12

The Bell 212 helicopter came down on Friday in Kuala Belait in the sultanate island of Borneo, while heading to Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei.

“We have 12 fatalities in the helicopter crash. Two military cadets survived the crash,” Brunei air force spokesman Norudin Salleh told AFP.

The Brunei defense ministry did not elaborate on the cause of the crash.

The Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah expressed “great sadness” over the deadly incident and visited the two injured cadets.

“His majesty hoped that they would be patient, and also prayed that the souls of the victims would be blessed and placed with the pious,” the Defense Ministry said on its website.

Brunei Defense Ministry reiterated that it will carry out an investigation into the cause of the incident.
