California students go on hunger strike

Their decision to go on hunger strike comes following release of data showing that the Student Loan Debt has gone beyond one trillion USD for the first time in the US history.

“I volunteered for this because I think it is right and we are in a very critical time, especially with an educational system and how it is slowly deteriorating,” said Matthew Delgado, a volunteer hunger striker student.

The students’ higher education tuition fee increase has skyrocketed over the past decade across the United States, with more than 300 percent increase for California’s higher education system.

This year students have to pay at least an additional 10 percent in their tuition fees compared to the last year.

According to California State authorities, the students’ higher education tuition fee increase is essential to offset nearly one billion USD loss in the State funding since 2008, while students reject the claim, saying that it is just an effort to shift the blame to escape the responsibility and going on a hunger strike is the only way to bring awareness to the situation.
