It has recorded annual growth of 14.7 per cent over the past five years, according to business analysts IBISWorld, while most other forms of gambling are stagnant or in decline.
Peter Young, Cricket Australia’s general manager of public affairs, said there was potential for sports to seek more revenue by demanding a cut from betting agencies.
”The revenue side is important and we believe anybody who’s making money out of the game should recognise that by putting some of that money into the game but the gaming on cricket is nickels and dimes compared to the integrity management issue with this proposal,” he said.
