Police are expected to charge a man over a fatal shooting in the town of Palmerston, near Darwin.
Police received a call at about 2.45pm (CST) on Sunday after a man had been shot on Essington Avenue in the suburb of Gray.
Officers responding to the call were waved down by occupants of a passing car which was transporting the victim to hospital.
The victim, a 25-year-old man, had been shot in the chest and died of the wound.
No-one else was hurt in the incident and witnesses have provided statements to police.
A 29-year-old man was arrested over the shooting in the nearby suburb of Woodroffe three hours later.
The alleged offender is believed to have been hiding in bushes.
A police spokesman said he believed charges would be laid on Monday.
The spokesman said the arrest was a good result for police.
“We got notified just before 3pm and we had him in custody by about 6pm,” he said.
The man is being interviewed by police.
