A staggering 2,100 people today joined together in colourful clothing to form the world’s largest ever human Olympic rings logo.
Schoolchildren and staff dressed in t-shirts, jumpers and even banana suits to make the yellow, black, red, green and blue circles.
The spectacular display was photographed from a helicopter as it hovered above Bay House School, in Gosport, Hampshire.
Their efforts smashed the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest human Olympic rings’, beating the previous record of 1,900.
The excited boys and girls even raised £2,000 for the African charity Friends of Mulanje Orphans by paying not to wear their school uniform.
Gold medal: More than 2,000 pupils plus their teachers in Gosport, Hampshire form themselves into the shape of the Olympic Rings, breaking the world record
Abi Marlowe, 15, who visited the orphanage last year and dressed in
red for the challenge, was delighted to have broken the record.
She said: ‘This school has great team spirit and I’m so proud of our new world record.
‘This proves that if you work together you can achieve amazing things.’
Stanley Hood, 12, who was wearing black, said: ‘It feels great to have set a new record.
‘I was so impressed with what we all did today.
‘We all saw pictures of the school that set the previous record – they looked amazing, but ours is even better.
‘I’m pleased we’ve done this in the year the Olympics is coming to London.
‘I feel immensely proud of that.’
Great achievement: The five rings, pictured, are comprised of 2,000 pupils and teachers, dressed in blue, yellow, black, green and red
Elliot Lapworth-Upshall, 13, in yellow, says he is now looking forward to the start of the games.
He said: ‘This is among the best things I’ve ever done in my life.
‘I feel honoured to have been a part of it and the atmosphere throughout the school is so up beat – we’re all so happy.”
Councillor Christopher Carter, the Lord Mayor of Gosport , plus the town’s MP Caroline Dinenage attended the event.
Ms Dinenage, who stood in the blue ring, said: ‘The atmosphere was fantastic.
‘The students had such a great time and so did I.’
Headteacher Ian Potter said: ‘There was a great spirit and it was a
real community event that I shall remember until the day that I die.
‘I’m sure the students will too.
‘For the school to be a world record breaker is a great achievement.

I hope they had permission from the Olympic Committee! With all the nonsense about trading standards asking shop keepers to take down posters of SUPPORT to our athletes due to them using the rings logo, not even selling anything, I hope trading standards don’t pick and choose who they threaten to take to court.
All we want to do is support our country, but we get FINED for the pleasure.

I took part in this world record event and am pleased that it happened because it meant that the whole school could come together to do something amazing, as well as raising over £2,000 for a great charity! To all those saying ‘what about missed lessons’, it happened near the end of the day, so we missed very little lesson time. What’s wrong with having an enjoyable fund raiser at school?

Looks like fun for the kids… Won’t they be disappointed when they see how boring the Olympics are?

My son took part in this challenge at Bayhouse and he is proud of what the school did. They’re school kids who highlight the excitement of the Olympics and raised money for charity so no negative comments please!!! P.S MH, UK…. they did it in the afternoon just before the end of the day!!!!
