Cop car rammed in 130km/h chase through Melbourne’s northern suburbs



A RUNAWAY driver who allegedly crashed into a police car during a 130km/h chase before being doused with OC spray has been arrested this morning.


The 20-year-old Wallan man was arrested near the Sydney Road exit of the Western Ring Road following a the high-speed chase.

Police said officers in an unmarked car first tried to stop the VK Holden Commodore in Thomastown just after midnight after spotting what they believed were false number plates.

The driver responded by doing a U-turn and driving at the police car, narrowly missing it.

He then hit a nearby second unmarked car causing minor damage before leading police on a chase through the back streets of Thomastown near Dalton Road.

Police officers continued to pursue the driver, chasing the car onto the Western Ring Road at up to 130km/h before the car smashed into a concrete barrier soon after suddenly swerving onto the Sydney Rd exit at Fawkner.

The driver allegedly then rammed the unmarked car again before officers managed to subdue the driver with OC spray.

Two men and a woman in their early 20s who were also in the car suffered minor injuries and spoke to police at the Mill Park police station.

The driver is being treated for minor injuries at the Northern Hospital, where he is expected to face a number of criminal and traffic-related charges.
