Deadly clashes in Turkey leave 26 dead

Reports say eight soldiers and 18 militants have been killed in the clashes.

The clashes broke out after the militants attacked a military post in Turkey’s southeastern Hakkari Province bordering Iraq, leaving another 16 soldiers injured.

According to security officials, the militants have crossed into Turkey from northern Iraq.

Meanwhile, the Turkish government itself has been accused of training armed forces from some Arab countries and of using its borders to cross them over into violence-ridden Syria.

PKK is a terrorist group that launched an armed insurgency against Turkey in 1984 to gain autonomy.

Listed as a terrorist group by Ankara and most of the international community, the group is held responsible by Turkey for the loss of nearly 45,000 lives over the past two decades.
