Dr. Hans-Peter Friedrich, Federal Minister of interior of Germany on Sunday insisted on equipping and training of Afghan forces for successful completion of security handover from foreign soldiers to Afghan forces.
The security transition to Afghan forces should complete on its due time, Friedrich, said while inaugurating a police academy constructed by German forces in Mazar-i-Sharif the capital city of north Regan Balkh province.
He also insisted that the German government would continue its support in this regard.
The first phase of the transition process that started from Bamyan on July 17 had been completed in Panjsher, Kabul, Mehtarlam, Lashkargah, Herat City and Mazar-i-Sharif.
The police academy that the German inaugurated on Sunday, had been constructed by the German provincial reconstruction team at a cost of 19 million euro (1.2 billion afghanis), a German official, said.
He did not want to be named and said that currently 60 Afghan police being trained and the number would increase to 800 in the forthcoming month. The eight-week training for police would be provided by Afghan trainers, he added.
Previously the German government had also construed a centre for primary studies of Afghan police in Mazar-i-Sharif. German government supported several development schemes the major one is construction of a 600 bed hospital, which is underway. frm
