POLICE divers have recovered a four-wheel-drive and the body of a man from the Murray Mouth at Goolwa.
Police say witnesses watched as a man appeared to deliberately drive his vehicle into the water about 8.30pm.
Attempts by witnesses to get the man out of the vehicle were unsuccessful.
The car was quickly submerged by the incoming tide, making rescue efforts extremely difficult for emergency services.
Sea rescue and police patrols rushed to the scene to retrieve the car and search the area.
The vehicle and the body of its occupant was recovered about 3:15am.
