TCP : Egyptian expatriates will head back Monday to embassies and consulates to cast their votes as the run-off phase for the first round of Egypt’s parliament elections kicks off in 139 foreign countries.

The two-day run-off voting will be held abroad Monday and Tuesday, and in Egypt on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In the first round of the elections, held abroad on Oct. 17-18, a total of 30, 531 Egyptians voted, with 20, 777 of the votes going to For the Love of Egypt electoral list, according to results announced by the High Elections Commission (HEC.)
The run-off phase will be carried out as only four out of 226 individual candidates were secured in the first round voting.
Eligible expatriates are more than 680,000, according to previously announced figures for previous presidential and parliamentary elections. According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s statistics, there are more than 8 million Egyptian expatriates abroad.
The highest turnout of Egyptian voters abroad saw more than 600,000 in the 2012 presidential election. During the 2014 presidential elections, the number of expatriates’ votes registered 318,000 persons.
An electoral silence began at noon Sunday, during which candidates’ electioneering campaigns will be banned until a run-off phase kicks off abroad on Monday, Oct. 26 and in Egypt on Tuesday.
Egyptian abroad will vote in the second phase of the elections on Nov. 21.
