Family grieving for Brazilian student

The family of the Brazilian student who died after allegedly being tasered by police say he had a promising future.

Twenty-one-year-old Roberto Laudisio Curti died in Sydney on Sunday after he allegedly resisted arrest.

Mr Laudisio Curti’s family said they were still coming to terms with his sudden and unexpected death.

“He was a young man who was much loved by family and his many friends, both in Australia and Brazil, and had a promising future ahead of him,” they said in a statement.

Police formally identified the Brazilian national on Tuesday as Roberto Laudisio Curti.

The family said Mr Laudisio Curti had been living in Sydney since last year studying English and playing soccer.

He had planned to continue with his tertiary studies in Australia this year.

“We will all miss him immensely,” the family said.

“We understand that the relevant authorities are carrying out an investigation into what happened and we await their findings.”

They have asked the media to respect their privacy.
