A WOMAN and her two young children were rushed to hospital after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Sydney’s south.
Hurstville duty officer Inspector Tony Unicomb said a family of five had right of way as they crossed at the corner of Terry St and King Georges Rd in Blakehurst about 3.45pm when they were struck by a red Holden Commodore.
A one-year-old boy suffered a serious head injury when he was ejected from his pram.
His sister, 6, required emergency surgery for a broken femur.
Their 34-year-old mother was also injured after being carried a few metres on the car’s bonnet.
The station wagon didn’t hit the woman’s husband and two-year-old son.
Insp Unicomb said the 47-year-old male driver, who had not been speeding, stopped to assist and was not affected by drugs or alcohol.
Paramedics and CareFlight doctors treated the family at the scene, before the children were flown to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick and the woman to Randwick’s Prince of Wales Hospital.
Insp Unicomb said police were investigating and would not comment on what caused the collision.
“It’s obviously one of those jobs you hate to go to when you have children of your own. It’s quite traumatic,” he said.
