Monday, November 28, 2011

US authorities have initiated the largest round of domain name seizures yet as part of their continued crackdown on counterfeit and piracy-related websites. With just a few days to go until “Cyber Monday” more than 100 domain names have been taken over by the feds to protect the commercial interests of US companies. The seizures are disputable, as the SOPA bill which aims to specifically legitimize such actions is still pending in Congress.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have resumed “Operation In Our Sites”, the domain name seizing initiative designed to crack down on online piracy and counterfeiting.

The new round comes exactly a year after 82 domains, including Torrent-Finder, were taken over in 2010. At the time ICE labeled the actions “Cyber Monday crackdown,” referring to the Monday following Thanksgiving where consumers are persuaded to shop online.

TorrentFreak has identified more than 130 domains taken over by the government during the last 24 hours, which makes this the largest seizure round to date. The authorities have yet to comment via official channels, but we assume that they will use the same justification for the domain seizures as they did last year.

  1. Hi Everybody…………….. The campaign known as ……OPERATION in our SITE……… of course as mention above, comes just a few days ahead of Cyber Monday, the busiest online shopping day of the year in the United States. ….read the site names though………They included sites with names such as reeboksite.com, shopsbag.com, verycheapjerseys.com and officialpumashop.com…….1 name would have been enough….cheapAuctionfederalreserve.com ……lol ahahahaha… A visitor to the sites is met with a message reading…..This domain name has been seized by ICE … Homeland Security Investigations, pursuant to a seizure warrant issued by a United States District Court……It informs visitors that copyright infringement is a federal crime carrying a penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, while trafficking in counterfeit goods carries a 10-year sentence and a $2 million dollar fine…….or if you don’t like paying fine or being locked UP , its okay say Dept of Homeland security…..you have an Option….You will send to AFGHANISTAN for light combat FULL metal jacket facing the TALIBAN…..sss…….lol
    Thanks

  2. Most of those websites do sound like shady sites selling counterfeit athletic wear and DVD’s which is pretty blatantly copyright infringement. I’m not concerned with those but I am concerned about this taken to another level where they look at information sharing as infringement or even worse knit pick every little picture and mention of something copyrighted. Then they would seize almost every site. These sites on the list are all American based domains, not because I know these sites but the feds would only have authority over US domains. If you don’t want the feds having this authority over your site then get an overseas domain and then they can’t touch it and all they could do is blacklist and block the site which is easy to bypass using a public DNS server instead of your ISP DNS which is the way they would block it but would be a pain for the average person to visit easily and would probably not come up in Google in a search for it. Another idea, just as a company did in the UK, is allow customers to buy broadband service but instead of as a customer, as their own ISP which is not filtered by the hosting company. Any complaints or infringements wouldn’t be against you but imaginary customers you create.

  3. Seizing these domains purpose is to force th poor to give up all those assets to Microsoft and other software companies.

  4. correction.***…You will be sent to Afghanistan for negotiation with the Taliban….no combat will be involved. this message is from.. Dept of Homeland security…..thanks to Alex Jones . Prison Planet .com …lol…ahahahaha

C’mon man, Fed workers need their entertainment or they’ll riot Greek style.

  6. ”Cosmology and telology

have changed in this century as a result of relativity and quantum mechanics. Previously, classical physicists such as Newton saw both the universe itself, and the laws according to which it evolves, as being the work of a God who, as it were, wrote the rules, built the machine and set it running. Indeed many classical physicists regarded the search to understand the laws of the universe as a quest to discover God’s master plan. Modern cosmologists, however, don’t require a god or gods to create the universe: in their cosmology the universe itself – mass, time and space – all appear together in accordance with the laws of quantum mechanics. The largest role that modern physics leaves to a god or gods is that of deciding which laws the universe will obey, and this is the area into which teleology has moved.”

narrow minds see only the evil negative energies but what about the good and positive ones?

I suppose they do not exist?

he has no master plan, he can do things we cant possibly even imagine . everything invented by man , everything we know about him and what he can do [he created everything ] is a drop in time , look up its not hard to see

Strange that the feds overlooked NuttyRich.com. Ripe for seizure.

  8. They really need incriminating evidence and a warrant beforehand.

And we all know they can plant whatever “evidence” they want.

If you know the IP address then you are going to go there anyway!

  9. and ?

  10. The way they erase the news id to use this copywrite law to remove things such as archives of black on white crimes first by removing all links to the usually only local coverage anf then take down all the websites that have cut and pasted the story thus hide the fact that every day blacks are raping, murdering, torturing and mutilating white women.

  11. So what, have a look at the list who gives a rats, maybe now we stop getting so much spam from these dodgy Chinese selling fucks. Take down the gambling sites, the porn, child porn and all that other shit too, they serve no contribution to society anyways.

  12. Good to see them out catching the bad guys for once, while those honest hard working folk on Wall St can be left alone doing GODS work (again)

  13. My brother told me this new legislation really is not what it seems, like most of what our congress does these days. It’s really a trojan horse ploy where the overall goal of this new law is censorship and and monitoring of the internet. He said “You watch what happens the moment this law goes into effect,it will be night and day. “And you won’t want to go on the internet anymore because it will be useless to find out what’s really going on in the world because the government can always claim that it’s copy right infringement from the main news media.” “The lights are going to out in Georgia” “And everywhere else in America.” I don’t know if there is going to be a war in the middle east, but it sure makes for good cover when the government wants to sneak legislation like this crap through doesn’t it? And it is important to the super rich who want to shut the internet down isn’t it? Our rights are their wrongs! Believe me this is gospel to them! No truth,no truth,no truth. The truth is the enemy when you want to take over a country.
