FIBO announces new innovations in fitness for 2012

FIBO, one of the biggest fitness and health trade show events in the world, announced its nominees for the FIBO Innovation Award 2012 — including a weight machine that automatically determines what resistance you need, equipment that trains “deep muscles” while stabilizing larger ones, and a resistance trainer that digitally controls speed and reps so you don’t have to.

These brand-new products made the cut for breaking new ground in the fitness industry with sleek designs, high tech innovations, or creative new ways of getting you fit.

Nominees in the training equipment category include the gym 80 International, which is a set of six fully electronically controlled and interconnected training stations. When the user sits down, the machine can detect his or her capability and adjusts the resistances accordingly — maximizing the workout, eliminating the hassle of adjusting weights, and reducing risk of injury.

Another contender is the HOISET Fitness Systems ROC-IT, an exercise machine that aims to create the authentic range of motion of free weight training, but without the risks.

Earning nods for being green, the SportsArt Fitness Green System is a group of fitness trainers, such as stationary bicycles and elliptical machines, that are connected to an inverter, so that users can help generate electrical power, off-setting consumption in the gym.

Also in the training equipment category is Itensic, a range of equipment that aims to train “deep muscles” by stabilizing the body at various angles to exercise lesser-used muscles while preventing larger muscles from compensating.

In the health promotion category, the Dr. Wolff Sports and Prevention Cervical Trainer enables training of the cervical spine while lying down, maximizing comfort. Also, SportMed AG’s Mobee Fit is a high-tech sensor fitness tracker for trainers to use with clients, to store data on sets and repetitions and profile information without having to refer to a laptop.

Also, the Cybex Bravo Press and Pull is an upper body training device that relies on a pulley system to work the body both horizontally and vertically.

Nominees in the design category include Brudden Equipamentos’ NEXT strength-training line – which aims for safe, clean, and noiseless workouts. Since the device is controlled by an electronic touchscreen panel, users don’t have to fiddle with cables, pins, or pulleys.

Craftwerk’s LOOP also earned a nod for a design that replaces cables and pulleys with a giant curve shape to maximize isokinetic training of all major muscle groups, according to the manufacturer. The sleek device comes complete with a touchscreen computer to automatically adjust your settings.

Also, milon industries‘ Milcanic Vision is a range of electronically controlled devices that provide digital training control so you don’t have to keep tabs of your routine. You can program speed, movement radius, numbers of repeats, and power measurements.

The FIBO Innovation Award, determined by a jury of journalists, sports scientists, and sport physicians, will be announced at the main event in Essen, Germany, on April 20. The event runs April 19-22.

The event rivals other major international trade fitness events such the Los Angeles-based IHRSA International Convention Trade Show and the IDEA World Fitness Convention, also in Los Angeles.
