The fact that former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has been charged on multiple criminal charges by Georgia’s authorities did not stop the new Ukrainian authorities from issuing a Ukrainian passport to the fugitive ex-president and to position him so as to become the governor of Ukraine’s Odessa Oblast (Region). Saakashvili brushed the charges against him off as “politically motivated” and refuses to face justice in a Georgian court of law.

On Sunday the controversial governor who previously had announced his ambitions to become Ukraine’s Prime Minister, announced that his ambitions reached beyond serving as Premier. Giving an interview with the Tblisi-based Rustavi 2 television, Saakashvili said “My ambitions are to establish new rules of the game, which implies a new political elite in Ukraine’s government”.

Saakashvili noted that he had gathered a group of “young and promising legislators, representatives of non-governmental organizations, journalists, various regional leaders, deputy ministers and a couple of ministers”. “These people  have got united in a bid to change the country”, he added. To the question whether these people could form the core of a new party that would seek parliamentary elections, Saakashvili replied:

“This is not a party, this is a movement like Poland’s Solidarity or Georgia’s United National Movement.” “Our key task now is to make the ruling elite step aside to give room to new peoples.”

Further on in the interview Saakashvili hinted  at the use of the well-proven use of a color-revolution-like strategy to replace post-Soviet oligarchical structures in Ukraine.

Ironically, Saakashvili and color-revolutions in general are more often than not financed and manipulated by western oligarchical structures and systems. Saakashvili noted that “Ukraine’s current government is to go not because I want to take their place but because Ukraine should not have a government embodying post-Soviet, oligarchic, corrupted values.”

Several Ukrainian media reported recently that Saakashvili could be dismissed as  governor of Odessa Oblast. The reports have thus far not been substantiated. Asked about Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Saakashvili replied that he considers Poroshenko as a “politician of a very high level”. A statement that is as politically ambiguous as it can be when speaking about the person who holds Ukraine’s highest office.
