The government is expected to buy an estimated 9.5 million tons of wheat from local farmers in the current Iranian year (March 2016-17), a deputy agriculture minister said.
“This would make the reserves adequate and possibly lead to the export of 2 million tons of the grain,” Ali Qanbari was quoted as saying by ISNA. Wheat imports remain banned until the yearend.
