Help sought to find stun gun gang

THE Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione, has pleaded for the relatives of a gang of youths using stun guns to terrorise robbery victims to help officers track them down.

Mr Scipione warned that police would go hard when it came to finding and arresting the offenders.

”Boyfriends, girlfriends, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunties, they know these people are carrying these weapons,” he said. ”They should ring us, ring us anonymously if they want, but tell us where these weapons are. We’ll take them off the street.”

Mr Scipione said a series of attacks in the city’s CBD and inner-west was worrying.

In the latest attack, two women were sitting at a bus stop on Pyrmont Bridge Road, Camperdown, early on Friday morning when a white car stopped and two males, one armed with a stun gun, climbed out and demanded money. One woman was struck in the head with the device, causing a minor cut to her face.

”These types of events are problematic, they’re still around and from my perspective, we are going to do all we can to get them off the streets,” Mr Scipione said.

Two arrests were made in the CBD on Thursday after attacks in Chippendale, Rozelle, Wolli Creek and Ashfield. Detectives are investigating whether other attacks are linked.
