Hezbollah condemns Iraq bombings

“These attacks come after the developments which have taken place on the political level in Iraq and aim at hindering the mission of building the Iraqi state and prohibiting the Iraqi people from investing in their own resources,” Hezbollah said in a statement issued on Thursday.

A string of shooting and bomb attacks occurred in six different regions across Iraq on Thursday morning, killing at least 34 people and injuring dozens of others according to Iraqi security officials.

“The Iraqi people should respond by keeping their unity and overcome all efforts of dividing them and creating sedition,” the Hezbollah statement added.

The Thursday attacks in Iraq were carried out a few weeks after Iraqi officials announced that at least 50 people were killed and scores of others wounded in bombings and shootings conducted in several cities, including Baghdad, on March 20.

Bomb attacks are not uncommon in Iraq, where militants frequently target Iraqi civilians and officials in an attempt to destabilize the government.

Bombings and other forms of violence escalated in Iraq soon after the US-led invasion of the country in 2003.
