Protesters re-entered the Occupy Oakland camp this evening after authorities had moved in and evicted them earlier today.
Around 1,000 protesters marched back to the Frank Ogawa Plaza after the Monday morning raid on anti-Wall Street protesters in the Californian city.
The move to clear the camp was described as a mistake by a top adviser to Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, who resigned saying the city’s actions could trigger more volatility.
Civil rights attorney Dan Siegel told Reuters he resigned in the early hours of Monday, before the raid on the encampment, after insisting police should protect, not dismantle, the camp at Oakland’s City Hall plaza.
‘I feel like the city has really made a mistake in the way in which it decided to deal with Occupy Oakland,’ Siegel told Reuters. The decision, he said, was ‘putting city officials on the wrong side of the dispute.’
